For the first 22 or so years of my life art was everything to me. As a kid I was constantly drawing. At first I would copy comic strips out of the Sunday edition of the Dallas Morning News, like Garfield and the Peanuts gang with good ole’ Charlie Brown and Snoopy. As I got older I would cut photos out of Sports Illustrated and draw the likes of the great Michael Jordan.

I was often recognized and awarded for my artistic ability throughout my middle and high school years. I went on to Texas Tech University and received my BFA in Studio Art. Although, as graduation neared I remember having a panic attack. I was about to graduate college and did not feel like I had any idea on how to use a Studio Art degree. How was I going to make money? WTF had I done? Had I wasted my time and money?

So I abandoned art. I went to a community college and learned web design and development and got a job working for Electronic Data Systems followed by Baylor Scott & White Health. During this span of almost 20 years I only completed a handful of drawing and paintings. And then one day I had another panic attack… WTF had I done? I had wasted almost 20 years of my life doing something I did not love. I had traded too many years of my life for a paycheck.

So here I am. Wide awake. Twenty years late, but awake. I am gonna make a run at being a professional artist.
